My Thoughts on I Don’t Want To Be An Ojakgyo
"I Don't Want To Be An Ojakgyo" is a story I initially approached with caution. The title and premise suggested a typical transmigration-into-a-novel scenario, but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and complexity I found. While it has its flaws, it's ultimately a charming and engaging read.
First Impressions
The story follows our protagonist, who, armed with memories of a past life where she read the novel she's now living in, becomes laser-focused on financial security. This drives her to enroll in a magic knight academy, befriends several of the original male leads, and even develops a secret identity as a magical inventor. I immediately liked the premise, and the early chapters hooked me with their blend of humor and world-building.
What Works Well
The character development is a major strength. The MC, Shuraina, is a pragmatic and hardworking individual, and I found her drive relatable. Unlike some similar stories, the male leads don't fall for her instantly. Their relationships develop gradually, built on shared experiences and genuine connection. I also really appreciated the portrayal of the original female lead, Hestia. Instead of being a stereotypical villain, she's a well-developed character with her own motivations and a surprisingly supportive, if somewhat possessive, friendship with Shuraina. The author has created a world where female empowerment is handled tastefully, without feeling preachy or misandrist. I also enjoyed the author's ability to balance humor, fluff, and angst. It made the story fun and easy to read!
Areas of Concern
One issue that comes up is the potential for second-hand embarrassment. Some readers found certain scenes uncomfortable or cringeworthy. Also, some have noted inconsistencies in the plot and world-building, particularly regarding the magic system. While these didn't ruin my enjoyment, they are worth noting.

Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "I Don't Want To Be An Ojakgyo" is a diamond in the rough. I found myself invested in the characters and their journeys, and the story offered a refreshing take on the transmigration genre. If you're looking for a fun, engaging, and well-written novel with a strong female lead and a charming cast of characters, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
