My Thoughts on I Didn’t Mean to Save The Villain
"I Didn’t Mean to Save The Villain" promised a fun twist on the reincarnation trope, and after diving in, I found myself with mixed feelings. It's a story with definite strengths, but also a few quirks that might not appeal to every reader.
First Impressions
The premise is intriguing: a reincarnated female lead trying to navigate the treacherous waters of a novel she's read, aiming for a better outcome for everyone. The European-esque setting and noble characters create a familiar yet appealing backdrop. I was immediately drawn in by the promise of a slow-burn romance and a FL who's trying to rewrite fate.
What Works Well
The slow-paced romance is definitely a highlight. The misunderstandings between the FL and ML, while sometimes a source of frustration, also provide plenty of comedic moments and opportunities for character development. I appreciated the contrast between the FL's loving family and the ML's difficult past; it adds depth to their relationship and gives context to their actions. The fact that the original novel's ML isn't our ML is a refreshing change that keeps the story from being too predictable. I found myself invested in seeing how their relationship would unfold.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the FL's attempts to change the narrative, I can see how some readers might find her personality grating. There were moments when I questioned her decisions and found myself wishing she would act with a bit more subtlety. Some found her actions over the top, which detracted from their overall enjoyment.
Final Verdict
"I Didn’t Mean to Save The Villain" is a decent read, especially if you're a fan of slow-burn romance and don't mind a somewhat flawed female lead. It's not groundbreaking, but it offers an enjoyable escape into a world of nobles, curses, and second chances. If you're looking for a quick, action-packed story, this might not be for you. But if you appreciate character-driven narratives and are willing to invest in a slow-developing relationship, then give it a try. I'd say it's a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
