My Thoughts on House of the Fog
"House of the Fog" immediately grabbed my attention with its unique setting and intriguing premise. I'm always on the hunt for a good omegaverse story, and this one, set in a 1960s alternate world where male omegas are primarily seen as breeding stock, definitely piqued my interest. The dark and mature themes promised a compelling narrative, and so far, I've found myself thoroughly invested in the characters' journeys.
First Impressions
The initial chapters paint a grim picture of the MC's life. Growing up in an orphanage where omegas are mistreated, he's internalized the belief that his sole purpose is to bear children for alphas. This naive worldview, born from trauma, makes him incredibly vulnerable, and I instantly felt protective of him. The ML, on the other hand, is shrouded in mystery. Rumored to be a cannibalistic "demon," he's a cold and imposing figure, adding an element of suspense and danger to the story.
What Works Well
The character development is a major strength. The MC's innocence and unwavering belief in the "father" figure who abused him is heartbreaking, yet understandable given his upbringing. It's a testament to the author's skill that I can sympathize with him despite his naivete. The ML's gradual softening towards the MC is also well-executed. His gruff exterior hides a caring heart, and I'm enjoying watching him grapple with his feelings and break down the walls he's built around himself. The world-building is also top-notch, creating a believable and immersive setting where discrimination and societal expectations shape the characters' lives.
Areas of Concern
One potential issue I foresee is the translation quality. While the overall story shines through, AI translation can sometimes lead to awkward phrasing and inconsistencies. However, the dedication of the translator in making the story accessible is admirable.

Final Verdict
Despite some minor concerns, "House of the Fog" has captivated me with its compelling characters, dark themes, and unique world-building. I'm eager to see how the relationship between the MC and ML develops and how they navigate the challenges of their society. If you're a fan of omegaverse stories with a focus on character development and a touch of angst, I highly recommend giving this novel a try.
