My Thoughts on Healer
"Healer" is definitely not a fluffy, feel-good story, but it grabbed me and hasn't let go. This novel plunges headfirst into darkness, exploring morally gray characters and complex psychological themes. It's a wild ride, and while it's not for everyone, I found it to be a captivating and memorable experience.
First Impressions
Initially, the heavy subject matter was daunting. The story throws you into a debaucherous underworld filled with morally questionable characters. Yaba, the MC, is introduced as a traumatized individual navigating a truly awful situation. The world-building is immersive, but be prepared for some unsettling scenes.
What Works Well
The author's writing style is incredible. The detailed descriptions made me feel like I was right there alongside the characters, experiencing their highs and lows. The relationship between Yaba and Cha Yiseok, the ML, is a major draw. They're both broken, imperfect individuals, and their connection feels raw and real. Their chemistry is undeniable, and watching them navigate their dark world together is strangely compelling.
Many readers praised the realistic portrayal of mental illness. Yaba's struggles are integrated into the narrative, shaping his actions and perceptions. He's not a weak protagonist; he's resilient and complex, making him easy to root for despite his flaws. The plot is intricate and filled with political intrigue, keeping me engaged from beginning to end.
Areas of Concern
The ML, Cha Yiseok, seems to be a point of contention for some readers. Some find him to be irredeemable due to his initial actions. While I can see that perspective, I found his character to be more nuanced as the story progressed. He's definitely not a typical "perfect" ML, but his flaws and his own trauma contribute to the overall darkness and complexity of the novel.

Final Verdict
"Healer" is a dark, intense, and addicting novel. It's not a light read, but if you're looking for a story with complex characters, a gripping plot, and a unique exploration of trauma and mental illness, I highly recommend giving it a try. Just be sure to check the tags and be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions. It's a 5/5 for me.
