My Thoughts on God-Given Business Genius
"God-Given Business Genius" piqued my interest with its premise of age regression meets the cutthroat world of food franchising. While it has its strengths, I also found myself a bit conflicted as I delved deeper into the story.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were definitely engaging. The idea of Song Woo-Yeon, armed with her past-life knowledge, rebuilding her empire after being crushed by a corporate giant is immediately appealing. The blend of cooking and business felt fresh, differentiating it from other regression stories focused solely on finance or corporate maneuvering. I was eager to see how she would navigate the challenges ahead.
What Works Well
The attention to detail in depicting both the culinary arts and the business aspects of running a franchise is commendable. The author clearly did their research, and I appreciated the insights into the food/restaurant franchising process. Also, the protagonist is portrayed as calm, clever, and hard-working.
Areas of Concern
My main reservation stems from the "Mary Sue" nature of the protagonist. While I enjoy a capable MC, everything seems to fall into place a little too easily for Song Woo-Yeon. It diminishes the sense of struggle and stakes, making the narrative less compelling. The pacing, at times, feels slow, which exacerbates the feeling that the MC is just effortlessly succeeding. I also felt that the reliance on references to real Korean shows and personalities, while potentially engaging for some, ultimately made the story feel somewhat unoriginal.
Final Verdict
"God-Given Business Genius" is a decent read, especially if you enjoy age regression stories with a focus on food and business. However, be prepared for a protagonist who excels at everything with minimal struggle. While the attention to detail in depicting the culinary world is a plus, the lack of significant challenges and the slow pacing might lead to boredom for some readers. Ultimately, it's a good time-waster if you're looking for a light and easy read, but don't expect a deeply complex or challenging narrative.
