My Thoughts on Flowers Are Bait
"Flowers Are Bait" is a web novel that definitely took me on a rollercoaster ride. With its blend of mature themes, psychological elements, and a dash of spice, it's a story that sticks with you, even if it does leave you feeling a bit emotionally drained.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the unique premise and the promise of a complex plot. The tags alone – amnesia, clingy lover, and psychological – hinted at a story that would keep me guessing. And it did! I found myself eager to unravel the mysteries surrounding the main characters and their tangled pasts.
What Works Well
I really appreciated the depth of the female lead. Her fixation on plants, particularly trees, felt like a genuine coping mechanism, and I understood her desire to escape the sh*tty parts of life. The author did a solid job of portraying her as someone who's been through a lot, and I found myself rooting for her, even when she made questionable choices. The male lead, though flawed, also had a certain appeal. His obsessive nature and the way he groveled for the female lead added an interesting dynamic to their relationship. The smut was a bonus, and I felt like it was well-integrated into the plot. It wasn't just there for the sake of being there, but actually served to enhance the tension and complexity of their relationship.
Areas of Concern
One thing that did bother me was the constant lying. While I understood the female lead's reasons for it, it did make it hard to fully invest in their relationship at times. It felt like there was always a barrier between them, preventing me from truly believing in their connection. I also felt that the villain's arc was a bit anticlimactic. After all the buildup, their ending felt somewhat rushed and unsatisfying. And, while I enjoyed the smut, I found the translation to be a bit off at times, which did detract from the experience.

Final Verdict
Overall, I'd say "Flowers Are Bait" is a worthwhile read if you're looking for a romance novel with a dark edge. It's not perfect, but it's engaging, thought-provoking, and definitely not your typical fluffy romance. Just be prepared for some angst, a few frustrating moments, and a whole lot of plot twists. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
