Description
Long ago, during an era when divine beasts mingled with humans and lived on Earth, a child bearing the blood of these divine beings, known as a “Shinin,” was born from the union between humans and divine beasts. The Shinin possessed miraculous powers, but the price of having such forbidden strength was high. The divine beast blood coursing through their veins induced madness. To counter this, the divine beasts joined forces to create beings with a calming scent, known as “Hyangin,” who could stabilize the Shinin. Only the Hyangin, whose scent matched the divine beast blood, could soothe the raging blood within the Shinin. In one such Hyangin village of the Honghwa tribe, there lived a young male Hyangin named Dan Yuha, who was discriminated against and scorned due to his parents’ crimes. Despite this, Yuha grew resiliently into an excellent perfumer and pharmacist, thanks to the Third Prince of the Empire, Shin Ryuwon, who had saved him as a child. With a heart full of gratitude, Yuha worked hard, hoping to one day repay Ryuwon. That day finally arrived when Ryuwon, suffering from the increasingly potent divine beast blood, came to the Honghwa village to recuperate. Yuha sought to use his talents to assist the prince. However, an incident occurred where another Hyangin sneaked into Ryuwon’s chamber to seduce him, causing Ryuwon’s divine beast blood to go berserk. In his ensuing madness, Ryuwon lost his reason and ended up ravishing Yuha…

My Thoughts on Flower Dream
"Flower Dream" is a web novel that immediately pulled me in with its unique blend of historical fantasy, romance, and a touch of the supernatural. The premise, centered around a perfumer from a discriminated tribe and a prince with a mysterious ailment, hooked me right away. I was excited to see how their relationship would unfold against the backdrop of ancient societal structures and divine bloodlines.
First Impressions
The initial chapters painted a vivid picture of Dan Yuha's difficult life, ostracized by his tribe due to his parents' actions. This setup immediately made me sympathetic to his character and eager to see him overcome his circumstances. The introduction of Shin Ryuwon, the enigmatic prince, added another layer of intrigue. I was particularly drawn to the world-building, especially the concept of divine lineage and its impact on individuals and society.
What Works Well
I appreciate the deliberate pacing of the story. The author takes their time fleshing out the characters and their backgrounds, making them feel believable and relatable. The world-building is also well-executed, with clear explanations of the Shinin and Hyangin and their roles in this society. The intricate details about the political ties with the imperial government and the impact of the MC's parents' actions on the tribe's status add depth and complexity to the narrative. The translation is also well done.
Areas of Concern
One recurring point that has come up is the pacing of the individual chapters. The chapters can feel quite short, sometimes only covering a single scene, which can make the story feel like it's dragging. While I appreciate a slow burn, I can see how the extremely slow progression of the romance might frustrate some readers. The story focuses heavily on narrative and inner monologues, which can occasionally feel repetitive.

Final Verdict
Despite some concerns about pacing, I find "Flower Dream" to be a compelling and unique read. The well-developed characters, intriguing world-building, and slow-burn romance make it a worthwhile experience for those who enjoy stories with depth and complexity. If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed romance, this might not be for you. However, if you appreciate a meticulously crafted story with rich characters and a unique premise, I recommend giving "Flower Dream" a try. Just be prepared to settle in for the long haul!
