Description
The hugely popular “Dazzling Star” band was exposed for countless scandals – the bassist faked his playing, the drummer had affairs, the guitarist fabricated data, and the lead singer insulted fans from the start. Overnight, “Dazzling Star” disintegrated and disbanded. Fan Bai Shinian, who was obsessed with the band, suffered a heart attack and died after seeing the news. Bai Shinian time-traveled back ten years and became classmates with the band members. He was heartbroken to hear their terrible, horrific band practice. Determined to change their fate, he set out to transform the band. Facing the boastful lead singer Bian Rui, Bai Shinian lavished praise: “It’s fine, they’re just a bunch of high school students who haven’t even grown up yet. How could they appreciate your highbrow music?” To the shy and introverted guitarist Shen Bei, Bai Shinian patiently coaxed: “Come on, let’s improve your skills, you’ll be the best. Try it again.” To the flirtatious drummer Cui Yeyi, Bai Shinian earnestly lectured: “Recite the code of conduct for men one more time, good job.” To the lazy bassist Fan Hongi, Bai Shinian cheered: “You’re the best! You’re the pride of the nation! Bass player, keep it up!” Five years later, “Dazzling Star” officially debuted. When interviewed about their previous manager’s influence, they said: “Shinian is our ‘mom’. Without him, we wouldn’t exist.” Only Bian Rui looked down on the reporter, coldly stating: “Did I agree to talk about my wife?”

My Thoughts on F4 High School Band Makeover
"F4 High School Band Makeover" promised a blend of fantasy, romance, and yaoi within the vibrant world of music and showbiz. After diving in, I found it to be a story with moments of brilliance, but also areas that gave me pause. It's a novel that sparks strong reactions, and I can see why.
First Impressions
The premise immediately grabbed me. The idea of a hard-working protagonist navigating the complexities of a high school band, with the added layer of a 'love interest falls in love first' trope, felt like a recipe for engaging entertainment. However, initial impressions can be deceiving, and the execution is where the story truly shines, or falters.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its characters. I particularly enjoyed the MC's personality. He's portrayed as strong and capable, but also realistically flawed. His dedication to the band and his earnest approach to dealing with the unique personalities within it are admirable. The author's ability to craft distinct and memorable characters is definitely a highlight. The overall plot moves at a good pace, and I found myself easily invested in the band's journey, their struggles, and their triumphs.
Areas of Concern
One particular plot point seems to be divisive among readers, and honestly, it gave me pause as well. The circumstances surrounding the band's first song, specifically its connection to a classmate's suicide and the school's alleged cover-up, felt a bit… tricky. While some appreciate the band's intention to bring awareness to bullying and seek justice, others found the use of the tragedy for their music problematic, bordering on exploitative. It's a delicate subject matter, and the execution seems to determine whether readers find it commendable or distasteful.

Final Verdict
"F4 High School Band Makeover" is a novel with a lot of potential, driven by its well-developed characters and engaging plot. However, the controversial plot point surrounding the band's first song is a significant sticking point that may deter some readers. Whether you find it commendable or problematic ultimately depends on your own interpretation and sensitivity to the subject matter. It's a story that provokes thought and discussion, and while it might not be for everyone, it's certainly a unique and memorable read.
