"Escape Game" sucked me in with its intriguing premise and blend of horror, mystery, and psychological elements. The promise of a deadly game where survival is paramount had me hooked from the start, and I wasn't disappointed by the initial arcs. However, a few things held it back from being a perfect experience.
First Impressions
The first arc definitely grabbed my attention. The high stakes and constant threat of death created a thrilling atmosphere. I immediately became invested in the protagonist and his fight for survival. The concept of the escape game itself, with its intricate rules and terrifying challenges, felt fresh and well-executed.
What Works Well
The author has crafted a truly engaging game setting, filled with diverse locations, formidable villains, and brain-teasing puzzles. I especially appreciated the strategic element, as the MC and his companions navigated the deadly challenges. Many readers have praised the author's creativity in designing these games, and I agree – they are a highlight of the novel. The characters, despite some flaws, were also compelling. I found myself rooting for them, even though I knew the odds were stacked against them. The humor sprinkled throughout provided a welcome contrast to the dark themes.
Areas of Concern
The romance, while present, felt somewhat rushed. I would have preferred a more gradual development of the relationship between the MC and ML. Additionally, the novel's incomplete status is a major drawback. While the author has provided summaries of later arcs, it's not the same as experiencing the story firsthand. The lack of closure is disappointing, especially considering the potential the story holds. Some loose ends, like the mystery surrounding the MC's brother, remain unresolved, which is frustrating.
