Duke’s Son: Re Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Duke’s Son: Re
I went into Duke’s Son: Re with fairly moderate expectations, and I've got to say, it's carved out a pretty interesting niche for itself. It's got that classic blend of action, fantasy, and martial arts, all wrapped up in a school life setting, so if you're a fan of the shounen genre, this might just be your cup of tea.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely threw me for a loop. The world is intriguing, with its fallen nobility and undercurrent of corruption, but the sheer chaos of the characters really grabbed my attention. The setup is classic revenge fare: our protagonist's father, a once-renowned figure, is brought down by political machinations and is now in a coma. Now, the son has to rise up to restore his family's honor.
What Works Well
The real strength of Duke’s Son: Re lies in its characters. "Off their rockers" is a pretty accurate description. The author seems to have a knack for creating individuals with… unique… personalities. It's refreshing to see a cast that isn't afraid to be a little unhinged. The main character, in particular, is quite compelling. He's determined, confident, and not afraid to bend the rules to achieve his goals. The academy setting also provides a solid foundation for the plot to develop, with plenty of opportunities for battles and training arcs.
Areas of Concern
I did stumble across a few issues that held me back from fully embracing the story. The early dialogue can be a bit confusing, making it difficult to discern who’s speaking. This can definitely detract from the initial immersion. I also noticed some inconsistencies in the text, particularly with skill names, which appear to be missing or improperly copied. Hopefully, these are issues that can be addressed with some editing.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, Duke’s Son: Re has a certain charm that kept me reading. The bizarre characters and the protagonist's unwavering determination make for an engaging experience. If you can overlook the occasional technical hiccups, it's definitely worth a shot, especially if you enjoy stories with a healthy dose of action, a touch of the bizarre, and a protagonist who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.
