My Thoughts on Duke, Please Fail!
"Duke, Please Fail!" had me intrigued from the start with its quirky title and the promise of a comedic revenge plot. After diving in, I found a story that, while not perfect, offers a lighthearted and engaging experience.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely unique. Our female lead, Nelly, is reincarnated after a rather unfortunate pudding incident (more on that later!). Convinced her demanding Duke is responsible for her past life's demise due to overwork, she sets out for revenge. However, her attempts to sabotage him hilariously backfire, leading to unintended success. It's a fun twist on the typical reincarnation trope.
What Works Well
The humor is definitely a strong point. Nelly's "failed" schemes are genuinely funny, and I found myself chuckling at her antics. Many readers also praised Nelly's character. She's competent and capable without being overly perfect or overpowered, which I appreciated. Her flaws make her relatable, and her attempts at revenge are more endearing than malicious. The male lead, Lionel, is equally well-developed. He starts as a somewhat suspicious figure but gradually softens, and his eventual romantic feelings for Nelly feel earned. The romance is a slow burn, but it's portrayed realistically, and their interactions are enjoyable to watch. The story also has a satisfying plot that goes beyond just the romance, with real conflicts and well-developed side characters.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, I can see where some readers might find fault. Nelly's revenge schemes, while comedic, sometimes feel a bit misguided. I understand the frustration of readers who found her actions bordering on harmful, especially when they could potentially impact the livelihoods of others. Also, the beginning of the story can be a bit slow. The romance doesn't really pick up until after chapter 65, which might deter some readers.

Final Verdict
"Duke, Please Fail!" is a charming and comedic read with a unique premise and well-developed characters. While the female lead's revenge tactics might not appeal to everyone, the overall lightheartedness and engaging plot make it a worthwhile experience. If you're looking for a low-stakes, feel-good story with a touch of romance, this might be right up your alley. I'd give it a solid 3.75/5.
