"Don't Fall For Me" promised a light, fluffy romance with a gaming twist, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting a cute college romance, and that's pretty much what I got. It was a quick and easy read, perfect for when you want something sweet and undemanding.
First Impressions
The beginning definitely had me cringing a little. The female lead starts off quite infatuated, almost to the point of being blinded by her crush. I wasn’t sure I was going to like her at first, as her initial actions felt a bit… misguided. Thankfully, the story takes a turn after her rejection, and she starts to develop into a more interesting and relatable character.
What Works Well
Once the female lead starts acting like her true self, the story really picks up. I enjoyed seeing her witty and teasing side emerge. The premise of her crush falling for her in-game persona, rather than her "real" self, was a fun twist. The gaming element added a unique flavor to the typical college romance setup. The pacing felt good, and I found myself invested in the relationship as it developed. The story is relatively low-angst, making it a pleasant and relaxing read.
Areas of Concern
The ending felt a little abrupt. Just when things were getting really good, the story ended! I was left wanting more "dog food" chapters, as some readers say, to really savor the couple's happiness. Also, I felt that the male lead's initial coldness was a bit harsh, especially considering the female lead's courage in confessing. While his change in attitude after discovering her gaming identity was sweet, I wished there was a bit more groveling involved.
