My Thoughts on Desire (Mogma)
"Desire (Mogma)" certainly made a strong, perhaps too strong, first impression. Diving into a web novel with tags like "evil protagonist" and "harem," I knew I was signing up for something potentially controversial, but I wasn't quite prepared for the execution. My initial reaction was mixed, and after reading further into the story, I can see why the ratings are so varied.
First Impressions
The opening chapters are… a lot. The protagonist quickly becomes overpowered, seemingly without much effort, leaving me wondering if I'd missed something. It felt rushed, and I struggled to connect with the story at this early stage. I was left questioning the pacing and the overall direction of the narrative.
What Works Well
Despite my reservations, I have to acknowledge the detailed descriptions within the novel. The author clearly puts effort into world-building and skill explanations. The info dumps, which can often be a drag, are handled skillfully, providing context without being overly tedious. This level of detail is appreciated and helps paint a vivid picture of the game world.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the AI and their behavior. The line between NPC and sentient being blurs rapidly, to the point where it feels unsettling. The AI's advanced thought processes and desires felt out of place, even within the context of a VR game. This, coupled with the protagonist receiving preferential treatment from a specific AI, created a sense of imbalance and undermined my suspension of disbelief. The mature content, while expected given the genre, felt somewhat gratuitous and didn't enhance the story for me personally.

Final Verdict
"Desire (Mogma)" is a novel with potential, marred by questionable choices in its early chapters. The detailed world-building and skill descriptions are definite strengths. However, the rapid power progression, the unsettlingly realistic AI, and the mature content may not appeal to all readers. If you enjoy stories with morally gray protagonists in immersive virtual worlds and are comfortable with potentially controversial themes, this might be worth a try. However, approach with caution.
