Description
My heart, my lover. Do not pretend to be unaware of our darkness, deceived by omnipotence. We are children of chaos, born from the pool of blood and moans. Cruelty and indifference are inherent traits that cannot be erased, and at times, we exhibit intense obsession. Chaos has bestowed upon us so much skill and talent, even though we are beings with no desire to contribute to anything real. Instead, we exist as beings that embrace destruction to overcome decadence. The order, conscience, and ethics that humans desperately want to protect… To them, such concepts hold no value or meaning. They do not even understand what it means to be cruel. “You know, don’t you?” If you are only pretending to know… Would you also scornfully push me away?

My Thoughts on Demeter’s Daughter
"Demeter's Daughter" promised a dive into Greek mythology with a spicy romance twist, and while it delivered on some fronts, my experience was a bit of a mixed bag. This novel certainly takes you on a journey, that's for sure!
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. The story centers around Asteril, a princess and priestess with healing powers, sent as the ninth Persephone to the realm of King Kalian. It’s not a straightforward Persephone and Hades retelling, which was a refreshing surprise. However, the sheer volume of unfamiliar names and places from Greek mythology did throw me off a bit at first.
What Works Well
The plot is undeniably engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I found the relationship between Asteril and Kalian to be a highlight. Their chemistry is palpable, and I appreciated the "cold to everyone but sweet to her" dynamic, even if it is a familiar trope. Asteril herself is a likeable protagonist; she's brave, humorous, and confronts challenges head-on. The author's writing style is also quite beautiful, with poetic overtones that add depth to the narrative. The ending is definitely something that will leave an impression, it's emotional and bittersweet.
Areas of Concern
While the plot kept me hooked, I did find myself struggling with certain aspects. The pacing felt uneven at times, and I felt that the love between Asteril and Kalian developed a little too quickly. Additionally, there was one particular scene that made me uncomfortable, where the male lead continued despite the female lead's verbal objections.

Final Verdict
"Demeter's Daughter" is an ambitious novel that blends fantasy, romance, and mythology into a unique, if somewhat flawed, package. While it has some pacing issues and a potentially problematic scene, the engaging plot, compelling characters, and emotional depth make it a worthwhile read for those who enjoy a complex and bittersweet story. I would give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster!
