My Thoughts on Death Is The Only Ending For The Villain
"Death Is The Only Ending For The Villainess" is a wild ride, to say the least. This novel definitely stands out in the crowded villainess isekai genre, and while it captivated me, it also left me feeling conflicted.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the premise. The game-like elements, with Penelope having to make choices to avoid a gruesome end, added a unique and thrilling dimension. Seeing her fight tooth and nail for survival was incredibly compelling. I quickly became invested in Penelope's journey, rooting for her to overcome the impossible odds stacked against her.
What Works Well
The character development, at least for some of the male leads, is a strong point. I particularly appreciated how the author explored different types of love and affection. Callisto, the crown prince, emerged as a fan favorite, with many praising his sassy, unconventional personality and unwavering belief in Penelope. The tension and suspense kept me glued to the pages, and I found the overall world-building to be well-developed. I also found the MC to be refreshing in this genre.
Areas of Concern
However, I also encountered some significant issues as I delved deeper. A recurring criticism revolves around Penelope's character. While some admire her unwavering determination and self-reliance, others found her to be cold, hypocritical, and ultimately stagnant. The lack of empathy she displays towards certain characters, particularly Eclise, rubbed some readers the wrong way. I can see both sides; her traumatic past explains her guarded nature, but it doesn't necessarily excuse some of her actions. I also noticed that some readers felt the plot became inconsistent, with Penelope's actions not always aligning with her supposed goals.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Death Is The Only Ending For The Villainess" is a novel that provokes strong emotions and encourages debate. If you're looking for a lighthearted, fluffy romance, this isn't it. But if you're prepared for a dark, complex story with morally grey characters and a protagonist who refuses to play the victim, then this might be right up your alley. I'd recommend going in with an open mind and a willingness to grapple with some uncomfortable themes. Just be prepared for a potentially bumpy ride.
