Description
She, an innocent young girl, fell hard for Ruyian at first sight, pursued him, got accepted by him and eventually they got married. Isilia shoved back her young, careless and lovelorn self, changing into a quiet, noble Duchess to make a name for herself, just to become a woman worthy of the title he had given her. The another reason she wanted a good reputation was to make a safe haven for their daughter, who couldn’t talk, and not just because her husband is a Duke. In their five years of marriage, they had no marital conflicts, no passionate incidents, no burning emotions, but she was still satisfied with their relationship. Until the day before her daughter’s birthday, her husband confidently introduced his mistress to her..

My Thoughts on Dear Duke
"Dear Duke" promised a heady mix of aristocracy, romance, and a touch of European charm, and while it delivered on some fronts, it ultimately left me with mixed feelings. The premise, hinting at a complex marriage and potential love triangles, certainly piqued my interest. However, the execution stumbled in ways that made it a somewhat frustrating read.
First Impressions
I was initially drawn in by the promise of a strong female lead navigating the intricacies of noble society and a strained marriage. The setting, steeped in European ambience, felt atmospheric and well-realized. I anticipated a story brimming with passion, intrigue, and emotional depth.
What Works Well
The world-building is undeniably a strong point. The author paints a vivid picture of aristocratic life, and I found myself easily immersed in the setting. The focus on the female protagonist and her dedication to her children also resonated with me. Her desire to care for her family and carve out a space for herself within a rigid social structure was compelling.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the romantic aspect of the story fell flat for me. I struggled to connect with the male lead, and the development of their relationship felt rushed and unconvincing. I also felt that the characters were a bit too caught up in their own heads, leading to a lot of internal monologue that didn't necessarily translate into meaningful action. It seems like there were opportunities for more dynamic interactions and deeper emotional exploration that were missed. The overall narrative lacked a certain spark, leaving me wanting more.

Final Verdict
"Dear Duke" has potential, and its strong world-building and focus on family are commendable. However, the lackluster romance and underdeveloped characters ultimately hold it back from being a truly satisfying read. If you're looking for a story with intense passion and a swoon-worthy romance, you might want to look elsewhere. However, if you're interested in a story with a strong female lead and a detailed aristocratic setting, "Dear Duke" might be worth a try, but be prepared for some frustrations along the way.
