Damn Necromancer Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Damn Necromancer
"Damn Necromancer" definitely grabbed my attention with its unique spin on the oversaturated necromancy genre. It's a web novel that seems to know exactly what it wants to be: a fun, action-packed romp with a protagonist who's more than just a brooding edgelord. I went in with medium expectations, and came out pleasantly surprised.
First Impressions
The premise is fairly straightforward. Our MC, a VR streamer, gets transmigrated into the body of a talentless rich kid in a game he knows inside and out. Instead of going the obvious swordsman route, he smartly picks necromancy, leveraging his in-game knowledge and newfound wealth to build a powerful undead army. Right off the bat, I liked the MC's resourcefulness and the way he uses his advantages.
What Works Well
What I appreciate most is the MC's personality. He's not your typical cold, detached protagonist. He's calculative, yes, but also charismatic and fun to be around. The author does a great job of making him feel like a real person, someone who can be ruthless when needed but also caring. And the summons? They're not just mindless drones. The mage summon, in particular, stands out with her personality and interactions with the MC. The world building, while leaning into Korean nationalism, it's still a fun read.
Areas of Concern
The plot can feel a bit generic at times, and the power scaling might get predictable. It's true that the MC's plot armor can get a little thick. Some may find the plot points poorly done, with some only coming into play 100 chapters later, which just realistically causes confusion and is only done for the continuity of the novel to get more chapters. Also, there are LOT of writing that emulates forum comments, which can be distracting at times.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "Damn Necromancer" is a genuinely enjoyable read. It's a fun, action-packed story with a charismatic protagonist and a unique take on the necromancy genre. If you're looking for a lighthearted and entertaining web novel, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.
