My Thoughts on Controlled by an AI
"Controlled by an AI" presents a unique premise: a special agent from the future, 2082 to be exact, finds himself transported to our present day (2022), equipped with advanced tech and an AI companion named Jinji. Amnesia throws a wrench into his mission, and the story follows his attempts to adapt and complete his objectives. The blend of adventure, comedy, fantasy, and slice-of-life elements initially hooked me.
First Impressions
The early chapters definitely shine. The dynamic between the MC and Jinji is genuinely entertaining. Their banter feels natural and sibling-like, providing a lighthearted touch to the otherwise serious undertones of the MC's mission. I was eager to see how the story would unfold, especially with the amnesia element adding a layer of mystery.
What Works Well
The initial concept is strong, and the fish-out-of-water scenario allows for plenty of comedic moments. The AI integration and the MC's struggle to navigate modern society with future tech offer interesting possibilities. The blend of genres also keeps things relatively fresh, preventing the story from becoming too predictable, at least for a while.
Areas of Concern
However, the story seems to fall into a repetitive pattern. The MC gets involved in an incident, investigates, fights the bad guys, and uses his advanced abilities to solve the problem. While this formula can be engaging initially, it quickly becomes tiresome. The episodic nature, without a strong overarching plot to tie it all together, makes the story feel stagnant.
Another element that grated on me was the constant introduction of female characters who quickly became infatuated with the MC. Their actions and internal monologues felt forced and detracted from the main plot. The "damsel in distress" trope is heavily used, and their presence often hindered the MC's progress rather than aiding it.

Final Verdict
"Controlled by an AI" has a lot of potential. The initial concept and the MC-AI dynamic are promising. However, the repetitive plot structure and the annoying harem elements ultimately detract from the overall enjoyment. If you're looking for a lighthearted read with a unique premise and don't mind the aforementioned issues, it might be worth checking out. However, if you prefer a more focused plot and dislike the "damsel in distress" trope, you might want to give this one a pass.
