My Thoughts on Bon Appétit
"Bon Appétit" promised a delightful blend of comedy, romance, and fantasy with a dash of cooking thrown in, and for a while, it delivered. As a foodie myself, the premise of a protagonist obsessed with creating delicious dishes in a historical setting immediately caught my attention.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were indeed hilarious and cute. The female lead, Luana, a transmigrated princess with an insatiable appetite, is a breath of fresh air. Her antics, like sneaking cheese jerky while being threatened, had me chuckling. The male lead, a cold-hearted duke who's lost his sense of taste, felt like a classic trope done right – at least initially. The translation was also consistently praised, which certainly enhanced my reading experience.
What Works Well
The story shines when it focuses on the fluffy, slice-of-life aspects. The slow burn romance, driven by Luana's cooking, is endearing. I enjoyed watching the Duke slowly warm up to her, a testament to the power of good food and a carefree attitude. The humor is definitely a strong point, with Luana's lack of seriousness providing consistent comedic relief. It's an easy read, perfect for when you need a break from heavier, more angsty stories.
Areas of Concern
However, as I delved deeper, some issues started to surface. A significant point of contention for me was the storyline involving witches. It felt underdeveloped and, frankly, a bit problematic.

Final Verdict
"Bon Appétit" has its moments of charm, especially if you're looking for a lighthearted, fluffy read centered around food and slow-burn romance. However, the underdeveloped plot elements and questionable character choices hold it back. While the initial chapters promise a delightful experience, the story ultimately falls short of its full potential. I'd recommend approaching this novel with caution, especially if you're sensitive to potentially problematic relationship dynamics.
