Description
After a great war devastated the world, the cities are divided into two types of zones: one where the rich lives (full of luxury and technology), and the other where the poor lives (hell on earth). Benjamin Colton lives in one of the poor neighborhoods, barely has enough to eat, and is tired of everything—of loneliness, of lack of love, and of the fact that he only has enough strength to survive. In addition to his daily duties, one day he ends up helping out as a waiter at an important party where only some of the richest people in the world are present. Unaware that he is being watched, the next day when he returns home, a wealthy-looking, very handsome stranger with a dangerous aura is standing at his front door. His name is Aster Shanfield, one of the richest people in the world, and his son.

My Thoughts on Benjamin
"Benjamin" is a web novel that certainly doesn't shy away from complex and potentially triggering themes. Diving into this story, I knew I was in for a ride, given the tags: dystopia, incest, jealousy, mpreg, R-18, r*pe, and sadistic characters. It's a potent cocktail, and the question is, does it deliver?
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the dystopian setting and the promise of a psychological deep dive. The premise itself is dark and captivating, drawing you into a world where societal norms are twisted, and morality is blurred. I came in with high hopes that these mature themes would be handled with nuance and depth.
What Works Well
The novel's strength lies in its unflinching exploration of taboo subjects. I appreciate that the author isn't afraid to push boundaries and delve into the darker aspects of human nature. The moments of intense emotion are palpable, and the world-building, while grim, is detailed and immersive. The romantic elements, twisted as they are, do have a certain pull, especially if you're a reader who enjoys complex character dynamics and morally gray relationships.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find myself occasionally bogged down by pacing issues. There were instances where the narrative felt like it lingered too long on certain details, slowing the overall momentum. I felt that some scenes could have been condensed or streamlined to maintain a tighter grip on the reader's attention. While the detailed descriptions contributed to the immersive atmosphere, at times, I felt they detracted from the plot's forward movement.
Final Verdict
"Benjamin" is a challenging read that won't be for everyone. Its explicit content and mature themes demand a certain level of preparedness from the reader. If you're looking for a lighthearted escape, this isn't it. However, if you're drawn to dark, complex stories that explore the depths of human depravity and twisted love, "Benjamin" might be worth your time, provided you approach it with caution and an open mind. Just be prepared for a slow burn with moments that can feel unnecessarily drawn out.
