My Thoughts on When That Door Opens
"When That Door Opens" promised a blend of adult fantasy and romance with a European flair, and while it had moments that intrigued me, my overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The initial premise, steeped in aristocracy and secrets, definitely piqued my interest. However, as I delved deeper, some elements fell short of expectations.
First Impressions
The setting immediately drew me in. I'm always a sucker for stories set against the backdrop of European aristocracy, and the author paints a vivid picture. The promise of "mature" themes and romance also had me eager to see where the story would go.
What Works Well
I appreciated the author's attempt to create complex characters. The female lead, in particular, is presented as someone with a hidden depth, and I found myself wanting to understand her motivations. The "arrogant" male lead also had potential, and the dynamic between the two held promise for some interesting conflict and development. It was also nice to see that the story was a completed original, so I knew that I would be able to finish the story without waiting for future updates.
Areas of Concern
One aspect that I struggled with was the execution of the romance. It felt somewhat rushed and underdeveloped, leaving me wanting more emotional depth and connection between the characters. I also had some issues with the pacing, as certain plot points felt glossed over while others dragged on. The writing style occasionally felt a bit too explanatory, as if the author didn't quite trust the reader to draw their own conclusions. This sometimes detracted from the overall immersion.

Final Verdict
"When That Door Opens" has some interesting ideas and a captivating setting, but ultimately, it falls short of its full potential. While I enjoyed certain aspects of the story, the pacing, character development, and somewhat underwhelming romance left me feeling a bit disappointed. It's a decent read if you're looking for a quick fantasy romance with a mature twist, but don't expect a deeply immersive or emotionally resonant experience.
