"Twisted Marriage" certainly grabbed my attention with its blend of historical fantasy and mature romance. The yaoi tag sealed the deal, and I dove in hoping for a compelling love story with some edge. So, how did it fare?
First Impressions
The premise is definitely intriguing. We're thrown right into the emotional turmoil of Yoon Sung, our MC, experiencing a brutal rejection. Discovering his lover's deceit and unrequited feelings for his best friend, Lee Seol, is a harsh blow. But then, bam, a twist! Lee Seol, the seemingly innocent object of affection, confesses his own love for Yoon Sung. This immediately sets up a fascinating dynamic, especially given the hints that Lee Seol's "pure" facade hides something much darker. This initial set-up had me hooked and eager to see where the story would go.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most was the central relationship between Yoon Sung and Lee Seol. The narrative really shines in portraying the complex dynamic between them. The idea of one character wearing a mask of innocence while harboring a more "twisted" personality is a classic trope, but when executed well, it can be incredibly compelling. The fact that Lee Seol is already deeply in love with Yoon Sung from the get-go adds another layer of intrigue.
