Description
“If you don’t remember, it wouldn’t hurt to remind you.” It’s been 20 years since I reincarnated as an extra in a book. I’ve been avoiding the villain for 20 years in order to not be killed by him like the original ending. After drinking alcohol, I faced the Duke of Chester, the villain in the original story. “You have to take responsibility for me, Yulia.” “Duke, I…” “Yulia, you have to take responsibility for me.” He started kissing each and every joint of my finger. Unlike his sweet behavior, his eyes contained a menacing look, as if wanting to eat people. “Yulia, don’t even think about getting out of here.” I’m afraid those words sound like a threat. Will I be able to safely escape from the villain?

My Thoughts on The Villain Began To Obsess Over Me
"The Villain Began To Obsess Over Me" had me intrigued from the start with its promise of a yandere male lead and a reincarnation twist. While the overall premise is appealing, my experience reading it has been a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely throw you into the deep end. The prologue, in particular, is a point of contention. I can see how the handling of the female lead's drunken encounter with the male lead could be problematic for some readers, and the victim-blaming is off-putting. It's a rocky start, to say the least.
What Works Well
The yandere aspect is definitely a draw, and when the story leans into the obsessive nature of the male lead, it can be quite compelling. I appreciate the translation quality and update pace, which keeps me engaged even when the plot stumbles. There's also a certain comedic value in the female lead's internal struggles and contradictions as she navigates this unwanted obsession. I do think the story has potential and I am curious to see if the FL is the orginial villainess.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the female lead, Yulia. I found her incredibly frustrating at times. Her constant back-and-forth, her inability to take decisive action, and her tendency to overthink every situation made it difficult for me to fully invest in her journey. I also struggled with the repetitive nature of the plot. The "I don't love you, but he wants me" cycle gets tiresome after a while. I found myself wishing she would stop going in circles.

Final Verdict
"The Villain Began To Obsess Over Me" has moments that shine, particularly when it embraces the yandere trope and explores the complexities (and darkness) of the male lead's obsession. However, the frustrating female lead and repetitive plot points hold it back from reaching its full potential. I'm still on the fence about whether I'll continue reading, but I can see why some readers are drawn to the story's darker elements and the promise of more intense developments to come. I would tentatively recommend it to those who enjoy yandere stories, but with a warning that patience may be required.
