Alright, let's dive into "The Demon King Who Draws." I've been spending some time with this web novel, and I've got some thoughts to share. It's an interesting premise, and while it has its strengths, there are a few things that held me back from completely falling in love with it.
First Impressions
Initially, the synopsis felt a little vague, and I definitely had to dig a little deeper to really understand what was going on. Luckily, I was able to find out that it's fundamentally a dungeon defense story. Our protagonist finds himself transmigrated into a gacha game as a "failed experiment" demon in a world where demons are losing to humans. It's a familiar setup, but I was curious to see where it would go.
What Works Well
One thing I appreciated was the characterization. It wasn't just a mindless power fantasy; the characters had some depth, which kept me engaged. I also liked the dungeon-building aspect, even though it's not the typical "slice of life harem" type of dungeon story. Instead of creating the creatures, he summons them using gacha mechanics. The forest theme, with its poison elements, evil trees, goblins, and other creatures, was pretty cool too. The inclusion of a mysterious six-star assistant and a seemingly weak six-star free pull added layers of strategic depth.
