First Impressions
Initially, I was taken aback by the intensity of the story. The male lead, Gu Wonjae, is, as the title suggests, a villain. His actions are often ruthless and controlling, creating a very uncomfortable dynamic with the protagonist, Chungwoo. I questioned whether I could continue reading.
What Works Well
Despite the initial discomfort, I found myself drawn into the narrative. The author does a fantastic job of portraying the complexities of the characters, especially Gu Wonjae. While his actions are often reprehensible, there's a certain depth to him that makes him compelling. I appreciated the character development of Chungwoo as well. His unwavering devotion to his grandmother, even in the face of adversity, is admirable. As the story progresses, he transitions from a passive victim to a more active participant, which made me root for him even more. The mythological elements woven into the story add an extra layer of intrigue. The parallels between Gu Wonjae and Hades, with Chungwoo as his Persephone, are subtle but effective.
