My Thoughts on So Bad
"So Bad" promised a mature romance with a healthy dose of spice, and for the most part, it delivered. As a fan of the yaoi genre, I was intrigued by the premise of two emotionally unavailable people unexpectedly finding love. While I did find some aspects of the story compelling, a few choices left me scratching my head.
First Impressions
The story immediately draws you in with its handsome male lead and the promise of a "green flag" relationship. I appreciated the calm demeanor of the protagonist, which provided a nice contrast to the potential drama of the plot. The "sex friends" dynamic also added an intriguing layer to the initial setup, leaving me curious to see how their relationship would evolve.
What Works Well
The core strength of "So Bad" lies in its exploration of emotional vulnerability. Watching these characters slowly open up to each other, despite their initial reservations, was genuinely heartwarming. I also enjoyed the slice-of-life elements woven throughout the story, which added depth and realism to their interactions. The author did a good job of portraying the complexities of modern relationships and the challenges of overcoming personal baggage. There was a lot to appreciate here.

Areas of Concern
Beyond the previously mentioned plot point, I noticed at times the protagonist's attitude came across as somewhat superior. However, I was glad to see that he eventually acknowledged his own role in their conflicts and showed growth throughout the story. This self-awareness definitely redeemed him in my eyes.
Final Verdict
Overall, "So Bad" is an enjoyable read with compelling characters and a heartwarming love story at its core. While there were a few moments that didn't quite land for me, the strengths of the novel ultimately outweigh its weaknesses. If you're looking for a mature romance with a touch of spice and are prepared to navigate a few potentially triggering plot points, "So Bad" might just be your cup of tea. I give it a solid 3.75 out of 5 stars.
