My Thoughts on Raga
"Raga" is a wild ride, to put it mildly. Going into it, I knew I was signing up for a story with some heavy themes, and it definitely delivered. It's a novel that focuses intently on character development and healing, and while it's not always a comfortable journey, I found it deeply compelling.
First Impressions
Okay, I'll be honest: the beginning is rough. There's no getting around the fact that Ling Xinlu starts out as a pretty toxic character. His violent tendencies and volatile emotions made it difficult to connect with him initially. I found myself questioning whether I could even stomach reading further. But I persevered, and I'm glad I did.
What Works Well
What really hooked me was the transformation of Xinlu and the incredibly patient, understanding nature of Yuri. The dynamic between them is fascinating. Yuri's calm, steady presence is the perfect counterpoint to Xinlu's chaotic energy. He doesn't try to change Xinlu; he simply offers him a safe space to be himself, flaws and all.
I particularly appreciated the exploration of maturity and immaturity. The age gap between Yuri and Xinlu isn't just a number; it's reflected in their actions and perspectives. Yuri's emotional intelligence and unwavering support are truly admirable. Seeing Xinlu slowly learn to trust and rely on Yuri was incredibly satisfying. He goes from someone who lashes out constantly to someone who genuinely reflects on his actions and apologizes when he's wrong. The novel depicts his journey of healing with a quiet and patient hand.

Final Verdict
"Raga" isn't a light and fluffy read. It delves into some dark and potentially triggering themes. However, if you're looking for a story about redemption, healing, and the transformative power of love, I highly recommend giving it a chance. Just be prepared for a bumpy start! The payoff, in my opinion, is well worth it.
