My Thoughts on Please Don’t Remember Me
First Impressions
"Please Don't Remember Me" had a premise that initially intrigued me: a princess, a political marriage gone awry, and a chance to escape into a simpler life. The tags – devoted love interest, doting older siblings, royalty – hinted at a potentially heartwarming romance with some familial bonds thrown in. However, as I delved deeper into the available chapters, I started to see why the overall rating was a bit lower than I'd hoped.
What Works Well
Honestly, finding aspects that consistently worked well was a challenge. The translation quality seems to be a strong point, with many readers appreciating the efforts of the translators. The initial setup, while flawed, did pique my interest enough to keep reading for a while. I was curious to see how the princess would navigate her newfound freedom and whether a compelling romance would blossom.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, several plot holes and character inconsistencies began to weigh heavily on my enjoyment. The princess's naivete, especially regarding the implications of her marriage, felt forced and didn't quite ring true. It was hard to reconcile her supposed patriotism with her decision to essentially disappear without informing her family, especially her doting brothers.
The male lead's supposed "devotion" also felt unearned. The leap from minimal interaction to extreme protectiveness seemed abrupt and lacked the necessary build-up to make it believable. The handling of the political landscape and the treatment of minor characters also raised some serious questions. The story seemed to prioritize the main characters' feelings at the expense of logic and world-building, which ultimately detracted from my overall experience. The writing style itself felt a bit disjointed, making it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story.

Final Verdict
While "Please Don't Remember Me" has a few redeeming qualities, the numerous plot holes, inconsistent characterizations, and questionable world-building ultimately made it a difficult read for me. The good translation can only carry a story so far, and in this case, it wasn't enough to overcome the fundamental flaws in the narrative. If you're willing to suspend your disbelief and overlook these issues, you might find some enjoyment in the romance. However, if you value logical consistency and well-developed characters, this might not be the novel for you.
