Description
Aubrey, the fourth son of Johan Wiidin, the most powerful Marquis in the Toroso Empire. Aubrey’s father, Johan, who married into the family as a son-in-law and took control of the marquisate, pursued nothing but success and power. He had no qualms about using Aubrey, his illegitimate child, as a tool to further his ambitions. A father who sees his child as a means to an end, a stepbrother who torments and covets his blood-related younger siblings—the oppressive Wiidin family is full of people who torment Aubrey. However, the thing he despises most is not his family but the horrifying truth: Aubrey is trapped in an endless cycle of regression, waking up as a 7-year-old after every senseless death. No matter how much he struggles, he cannot escape a miserable death. Desperate to uncover the reason for his regression, Aubrey eventually discovers that the key to the mystery lies with his half-brother Lennock, who does not share a drop of his blood. Can Aubrey uncover the secrets of their intertwined past and finally break free from the cycle of regression?

My Thoughts on Plastic Tree
"Plastic Tree" definitely isn't your typical light read, and I quickly realized that diving in. With its blend of action, fantasy, romance, and darker themes, it's a complex story that demands attention. I'm not going to lie; I went into this one expecting something different, but I was pleasantly surprised by the depth it offered.
First Impressions
The initial draw for me was the European setting and the promise of intricate family dynamics. I'm always a sucker for a well-developed world and characters with complicated pasts. The tags alone hinted at a story that wouldn't shy away from difficult subjects, which piqued my curiosity.
What Works Well
What immediately stood out to me was the protagonist. He's not your cookie-cutter hero; he's flawed, jaded, and carries the weight of past lives. The narrative doesn't shy away from exploring his trauma and the impact it has on his relationships. I particularly appreciated the story's handling of sensitive topics like assault. It's portrayed with a degree of realism and doesn't gloss over the psychological aftermath, which is a refreshing change from how these themes are often handled in similar novels. The author's willingness to delve into the darker aspects of the human experience makes the story feel more authentic and impactful. The complex family relationships are also a major draw, adding layers of intrigue and conflict that kept me invested.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Plastic Tree" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel. It's not for the faint of heart, given its exploration of mature themes and morally grey characters, but if you're looking for a story that challenges you and stays with you long after you've finished reading, I'd recommend giving it a try. I'm eager to see how the translation progresses and delve deeper into this intricate world.
