"Only Weapon Master" promised a unique blend of action, comedy, and gender-bending shenanigans in a virtual reality setting. As someone always on the lookout for fresh web novel content, I dove in hoping for a fun, engaging read. Unfortunately, my experience was…mixed, to say the least.

First Impressions

The premise itself is intriguing: a protagonist returning from another world and diving into the world of VR MOBAs and VTubing after a gender change. The initial chapters were lighthearted, focusing on the MC adjusting to their new life and reconnecting with a close friend. I was initially charmed by the slice-of-life elements, especially the interactions between the main character and their friend.

What Works Well

Despite the issues I'll get to, there are glimpses of potential. The dynamic between the protagonist and their clingy friend provides some genuinely humorous moments. The initial novelty of the VR game and VTuber aspects also held my attention for a while. Finally, the constant use of Korean nationalism and negative depictions of other cultures became tiresome and detracted from my enjoyment.
