Newlyweds

Description
Warning: This work contains elements of forced relationships and self-hypnosis. How can it feel this good? As if someone had torn through his mind. One day at work, Yoon Seong-hyeon hears about a self-hypnosis app—an app that supposedly helps users achieve weight loss, academic success, and more through hypnosis. Intrigued, he tries to download it. But to his shock, the app is already installed on his phone. My Thoughts on Newlyweds
"Newlyweds" is certainly... an experience. Diving into this novel, I knew the tags prepared me for a wild ride, but even then, I wasn't entirely ready for the twists and turns. This book isn't for the faint of heart, and it definitely sits on the extreme end of the spectrum, even for the yaoi genre.
First Impressions
My first impression was a mix of intrigue and slight apprehension. The premise is undeniably out there: a hypnotized victim of bullying, a revenge plot, and a heavy dose of R-18 content. It's the kind of story that grabs your attention immediately, but also makes you wonder if you should be reading it.
What Works Well
The smut is undeniably a major draw. It's plentiful, explicitly detailed, and, for some, incredibly satisfying. The dynamic between the characters, especially the power imbalance due to the hypnosis, creates a unique tension that fuels the eroticism. I found the internal struggle of the protagonist, battling against the mind control, to be compelling. The author does a good job portraying this internal conflict as "lights flickering on and off", adding a layer of depth to the otherwise outrageous plot. If you're looking for a story that pushes boundaries and doesn't shy away from taboo themes, "Newlyweds" might just be your cup of tea.
Areas of Concern
I did find some aspects of the plot less appealing. The initial bullying, while a catalyst for the entire story, can be a significant turn-off. It's a difficult theme to navigate, and while revenge stories can be cathartic, the specific execution here might not resonate with everyone. The "falling in love" moment, or rather, the justification for the obsession, felt somewhat weak and underdeveloped. It's a crucial element that, in my opinion, needed more attention to make the overall narrative more convincing.

Final Verdict
"Newlyweds" is a guilty pleasure novel, plain and simple. It's not going to win any literary awards, but if you're looking for a smut-heavy, boundary-pushing read with a dark and twisted premise, you might find yourself enjoying it despite its flaws. Just be sure to heed the warnings and know what you're getting into before diving in! I would personally give it a 3.5/5.
