Description
Laneige is pretty and smart, but only thing that she is missing is wealth and last name. A commoner like her can’t really get a good education even though she is smart. And people who are not nobles don’t have last names to verify who they are. There is this one academy in the whole country called Royal Academy. They said it’s for the education, but unless you are rich or already have large amount of knowledge, there is no way for a normal commoner to enter this school. Laneige studied her bu*t off to get out of poverty, and she was able to get into this school, BUT female student spots were filled. The school couldn’t give special treatment to Laneige because then the nobles will uprise and complain to the school. Still the school couldn’t let Laneige go because she had an outstanding grade, so their method was to disguise Laneige as a male and let her stay in the school. When you are a commoner, you can study your bu*t off to get into the school. But there is still a hierarchy in the school. When commoners enter the school, they are assigned to one child of a noble who is older than them. Those commoners are called Japry. They are to stay and follow the person to “see” and “learn” better and faster. But that’s only an official excuse. Basically Japrys are their personal servants. Laneige becomes the Japry of the country’s most powerful noble’s second son. She was prepared to meet a spoiled brat, but he was little different than she thought….

Luna Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Luna
"Luna" promised a blend of fantasy, romance, and shoujo vibes, all wrapped up in a European-esque academy setting. As a fan of these genres, I dove in with high hopes. After spending some time with Luna and her story, here are my thoughts.
First Impressions
The initial setup is intriguing: a poor but clever protagonist navigating a noble-filled academy while cross-dressing. The premise immediately throws you into a world of secrets and potential romance, with the promise of strong love interests and wealthy characters adding to the allure. I was definitely hooked by the potential for witty banter and dramatic reveals.
What Works Well
The world-building is quite captivating. The academy setting is vividly described, and I could easily picture the grand halls and clandestine corners where Luna's adventures unfold. There's a certain charm to the noble society depicted, with its intricate social dynamics and hidden agendas. The author does a solid job of creating an atmosphere that’s both elegant and dangerous, setting the stage for high-stakes drama.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed parts of the story, there were a few elements that didn't quite click for me. I found Luna's internal monologue, at times, a little off-putting. The constant reminders of her own intelligence and beauty, while perhaps intended to showcase her confidence, occasionally came across as a bit arrogant. Also, the mystery surrounding her reasons for cross-dressing felt drawn out. While I understand the need for suspense, it sometimes felt like information was being withheld purely for the sake of it.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Luna" is an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of academy settings and cross-dressing protagonists. While the main character's self-assuredness can be a bit grating at times, the captivating world and intriguing plot kept me engaged. It's a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.
