Description

"Living with an Ex-Husband" promised a second-chance romance with a dash of spice, but my experience left me feeling… conflicted, to say the least. The premise, an arranged marriage gone sour and a subsequent reunion under unusual circumstances, had potential. However, the execution stumbled in ways that significantly impacted my enjoyment.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of revisiting a broken relationship. The idea of exploring the complexities of forgiveness and reconciliation is always appealing, especially when set against a backdrop of modern-day challenges. I was hoping for a story that would delve into the emotional baggage and personal growth needed to make such a reconciliation believable.
What Works Well
I will say that the translation quality was quite good, I found it easy to follow the narrative despite my reservations about the plot. The writing style itself was generally competent, and the author was able to evoke some emotional response, particularly in the beginning, where the female lead's pain was palpable.

My biggest issue lies with the characters and their motivations. The female lead's actions often felt inconsistent with her strong declarations, making her seem frustratingly passive at times. The conflict felt manufactured, easily resolved with a simple conversation, yet dragged out for dramatic effect. Furthermore, the side characters, particularly the mother-in-law, felt like caricatures rather than believable individuals, behaving in ways that seemed out of place in a modern setting. The power dynamics and interactions felt forced, adding to the overall sense of disconnect.

Ultimately, "Living with an Ex-Husband" fell short of my expectations. While the premise held promise, the flawed characters, inconsistent plot, and questionable relationship dynamics made it a difficult read. The good translation couldn't compensate for the story's shortcomings, leaving me with a sense of dissatisfaction. I can't recommend this novel in its current state.
