My Thoughts on I’m Not the Saint, She Is!
"I'm Not the Saint, She Is!" threw me into a whirlwind of cyberpunk chaos from the get-go, and I'm still trying to piece together my feelings. It's a novel with a lot of potential, but it needs some refinement.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are a rush. I found myself bombarded with futuristic jargon and glimpses into a dystopian world. The synopsis barely scratches the surface; this story is deep into cyberpunk territory, complete with megacorps, androids, and lawless zones. The cover art, though... yeah, I'm not entirely sure what it has to do with the actual story. It feels disconnected.
What Works Well
I'm intrigued by the main character. She's a fascinating contradiction: a cynical, almost selfish inner monologue battling with genuinely altruistic actions. She has the skills and connections to live comfortably, yet chooses a life of poverty, helping others without seeking recognition. This contrast creates a lot of humor and makes her relatable, despite her unusual circumstances. I also appreciate the "in medias res" approach to storytelling. The author throws us right into the action and reveals the character's past gradually, which keeps things moving at a brisk pace.
Areas of Concern
The rapid-fire introduction of cyberpunk terms without much explanation left me feeling a little lost at times. I think readers unfamiliar with the genre might struggle to keep up. Also, while the gender-bender aspect is tagged, it doesn't seem to play a significant role in the story so far. I hope this element will be explored more deeply later on. My biggest concern is the introduction of new characters and gangs that seem to disappear after a single chapter or arc. I'm worried the story might become a series of disconnected events rather than a cohesive narrative.
Final Verdict
"I'm Not the Saint, She Is!" has a lot of promise, but it needs to iron out some of its pacing and world-building issues. The intriguing main character and fast-paced plot kept me hooked, but I'm hoping for a more focused and coherent narrative as the story progresses. For now, I'm cautiously optimistic.
