My Thoughts on I Told You I’m Not A Goddess?
"I Told You I’m Not A Goddess?" presents an intriguing premise: a South Korean man finds himself reincarnated as his overpowered, female video game character within the game world itself. It's a gender-bending isekai with a focus on slice-of-life and village building, which immediately piqued my interest. The blend of fantasy and humor promises a lighthearted adventure, and the initial chapters definitely deliver on that front.
First Impressions
The opening is a bit abrupt. Our protagonist is thrown into the game world, escapes a dangerous dungeon, and is quickly integrated into a frontier village. While this fast pacing gets the story moving, it does leave you wanting a bit more explanation and world-building upfront. However, the charm of the village and the protagonist's fish-out-of-water situation quickly makes up for it.
What Works Well
I found the core concept very appealing. The idea of a character trying to live a "normal" life while possessing immense power is a classic trope, but the gender-bending aspect and the setting of a fledgling village add a fresh twist. The protagonist's attempts to help the villagers, often leading to hilarious misunderstandings and escalating situations, are genuinely entertaining. The story seems to excel at creating a cozy and engaging atmosphere, making it easy to get invested in the village's growth and the characters within it.
Areas of Concern
While the story's premise and lighthearted tone are definite strengths, I did notice some issues with the writing. The story seems to suffer from editing issues. This can be distracting and detract from the overall reading experience.
Final Verdict
Despite its shortcomings, "I Told You I’m Not A Goddess?" has a lot of potential. The unique premise, the endearing characters, and the engaging slice-of-life elements make it an enjoyable read overall. If you're looking for a lighthearted isekai with a gender-bending twist and don't mind overlooking some imperfections in the writing, this might be right up your alley. I'm cautiously optimistic and hoping to see improvements in future chapters.
