My Thoughts on I Thought It Was An Arranged Marriage
First Impressions
"I Thought It Was An Arranged Marriage" immediately pulled me in with its promise of a fantasy romance set against a European-esque backdrop. The arranged marriage trope is one I often enjoy, and the added layer of a female protagonist navigating noble society intrigued me. I was definitely curious to see how the author would balance the romance and fantasy elements, especially with the 'smut' tag in the mix.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is how the author handles the characters' trauma. I appreciated that the story doesn't shy away from exploring the emotional baggage both Rosie and Lucas carry. Rosie's introspective nature and her way of processing her past life's experiences felt very believable to me. It's refreshing to see a character who is both socially adept and introverted, a combination that makes her interactions within the noble setting all the more compelling. The balance between plot and smut is also well-managed; the story doesn't get bogged down in explicit content, allowing the narrative to breathe and develop. Lucas, with his subtly yandere tendencies, is a fascinating character, and I found the author's approach to revealing his personality through actions rather than just telling us about it to be quite effective.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, I did have a few minor reservations. Certain characters, such as Amelia, could have benefited from more nuanced development. Although her flaws are apparent, exploring the reasons behind her actions more deeply could have added another layer to the narrative.

Final Verdict
Overall, "I Thought It Was An Arranged Marriage" is an engaging read that I would recommend to fans of fantasy romance with a touch of spice. The well-developed characters, intriguing plot, and thoughtful exploration of trauma make it stand out. While there are a few areas where the story could be improved, the strengths far outweigh the weaknesses, making it a worthwhile addition to the genre.
