My Thoughts on I May Be a Villainess, But I Won’t Live My Life that Way
This web novel promises a twist on the classic villainess trope, and while it has its strengths, it didn't completely sweep me off my feet. The premise is intriguing: a noblewoman, Bianca, discovers a future where her jealousy leads to her downfall, and she vows to change her fate. It's a story about self-preservation, but also, hopefully, about genuine personal growth.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the promise of a European-esque setting and the potential for a strong female lead. I always enjoy stories where a character actively fights against a predetermined destiny. The idea of a wealthy, beautiful, and seemingly perfect noblewoman having to confront her flaws and societal expectations felt like a promising setup.
What Works Well
I appreciated the fact that the story isn't another isekai or reincarnation tale. Bianca isn't someone from another world; she's simply a character waking up to the potential consequences of her actions. I also liked that the "original" female lead, Maria, isn't portrayed as an inherently malicious character. Instead, she's presented as someone misguided, which allows for a more nuanced and, ultimately, more satisfying relationship with Bianca. The male lead, Ricardo, also undergoes a transformation, realizing his initial prejudices against Bianca and working to understand her better. The adoption storyline was a very welcome surprise.
Areas of Concern
One aspect that gave me pause was the initial motivation behind Bianca's change. While understandable given the circumstances, the fact that her actions are initially driven by fear of death rather than a genuine change of heart feels a bit… hollow. It also felt a little strange how the story seems to portray Bianca's "villainous" behavior as inherently worthy of a death sentence, when she was just a spoiled, rich girl. The fiancé cheating on her also felt a little glossed over.

Final Verdict
I May Be a Villainess, But I Won’t Live My Life that Way is a decent read, especially if you enjoy stories with determined female leads and a focus on character growth. While it might not be groundbreaking, it offers a pleasant escape with moments of genuine warmth and emotional depth. If you're looking for a villainess story with a slightly different flavor, this might be worth checking out.
