My Thoughts on I Am Still Alive
"I Am Still Alive" plunges you headfirst into the brutal reality of a zombie apocalypse, and while it has its strengths, it's also a bit of a bumpy ride. The premise is solid: survival in the face of overwhelming odds. As a reader, I was definitely intrigued by the psychological aspect, the slow erosion of humanity in the face of constant threat.
First Impressions
My first impression was that the diary-style narration was going to be an interesting way to experience the story. The idea of seeing the apocalypse through the eyes of someone slowly losing himself is inherently compelling. I quickly realized, however, that this style also presents some unique challenges.
What Works Well
The core concept of a man battling not just zombies but also his own inner demons is gripping. The novel excels at portraying the raw, visceral struggle for survival. The action, when it hits, can be intense and impactful. I found myself rooting for the protagonist, even as he made questionable choices in his struggle to survive.
Areas of Concern
I have to admit, I found the diary format a little jarring at times. It felt like the protagonist was too aware of an audience, which undercut the sense of authenticity that the format should provide. I also felt that the plot meandered a bit, focusing more on immediate survival than a larger, overarching narrative.

Final Verdict
"I Am Still Alive" is a mixed bag. The psychological horror and action elements are well-executed, and the premise is undeniably captivating. However, the narrative style and somewhat aimless plot prevent it from reaching its full potential. If you're willing to overlook some inconsistencies in favor of a gritty, character-driven survival story, it might be worth your time.
