Description
Kim Mukyeom, the ace of the Greenford team in the English Premier League, a world star, a football icon of Asia, and both the ace and troublemaker of the Korean national football team. He voluntarily takes a one-year loan to the K League team City Seoul, willing to face public criticism and even relinquish part of his salary, all to repay the favor of his middle school mentor who led him onto the path of football. There, he meets Lee Hajoon, a rookie physical coach of the same age. Though they had been to the World Cup together and had been called up for the national team several times, Hajoon was strangely unmemorable to Mukyeom. Even at City Seoul, he seemed to avoid Mukyeom subtly. How dare a rookie coach like him discriminate against me, Kim Mukyeom? However, it didn’t take long for Mukyeom to notice Hajoon’s ‘strange vibe’ of avoidance.

My Thoughts on Halfline
"Halfline" dives headfirst into the world of professional football with a heavy dose of mature content and romance. As a reader, I found myself both captivated and occasionally frustrated by the dynamic between the main characters, Lee Hajoon and Kim Mukyeom. It's a story with undeniable heat and some compelling character development, but it also has moments that made me pause.
First Impressions
The initial draw for me was the sports setting combined with the BL (Boys' Love) genre. I'm always on the lookout for something a little different, and "Halfline" certainly delivers. Mukyeom, the "bad boy" athlete, and Hajoon, the more reserved character, create an interesting contrast that immediately pulls you in.
What Works Well
The chemistry between Mukyeom and Hajoon is undeniable. The author does a great job of portraying their physical attraction, and the smut scenes are undeniably steamy. I especially appreciated the later development of Mukyeom's character, particularly his devotion to Hajoon. The exploration of his past trauma and how it influences his actions adds a layer of depth to his character. The author also presents the challenges of a relationship in the public eye realistically and thoughtfully.
Areas of Concern
Hajoon's characterization is a bit of a mixed bag for me. While I appreciate his loyalty, I sometimes found him to be a bit too passive. I also felt like the constant teasing about their public coming out was drawn out for too long. While the slow burn can be effective, it began to feel repetitive after a while.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Halfline" is an engaging read with plenty of spice and a compelling central relationship. However, it's not without its flaws, particularly in the pacing and the inclusion of potentially triggering content. If you're a fan of sports BL with mature themes and are aware of the potential triggers, it's definitely worth checking out. I'd give it a solid 3.7 out of 5 stars.
