My Thoughts on Ghoul
"Ghoul" is a web novel that definitely left me with a lot to unpack. It's a strange mix of dark, post-apocalyptic horror with surprisingly fluffy, tender moments. It's not a story for the faint of heart, but if you're willing to wade through some disturbing content, there's a unique story to be found here.
First Impressions
My initial reaction was a bit jarring, to be honest. The beginning throws you right into the deep end with some pretty heavy themes. The story kicks off in a way that's undeniably rough and potentially triggering for some readers. It definitely sets a dark tone that lingers throughout the novel.
What Works Well
Despite the initial shock, I found myself drawn to the world-building. The author does a fantastic job of portraying a realistic, gritty apocalypse. The details, like the MC's unfamiliarity with everyday objects and the accurate depiction of starvation, really grounded the story for me. It felt believable in a way that many post-apocalyptic narratives don't.
I also appreciated the development of the central relationship. It's an unusual pairing, to say the least, given the cannibalistic elements. However, the dynamic between the characters becomes surprisingly sweet and comforting as the story progresses. The male lead is unexpectedly gentle and understanding, which offers a welcome contrast to the bleakness of their surroundings. The author does a great job of showing the love interest falling in love first.
Areas of Concern
The major issues for me are definitely in the first few chapters. I can see how the initial events could be a deal-breaker for many readers. While the story does move past those events, they still leave a mark on the overall narrative. Also, the constant mention of cannibalism might be off-putting for some.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Ghoul" is a mixed bag. It has moments of brilliance in its world-building and character development, but it's also weighed down by some questionable plot choices and potentially triggering content. If you're prepared for a dark and unconventional story with some genuinely sweet moments, it might be worth checking out. However, proceed with caution and be aware of the themes it explores.
