My Thoughts on City Of Witches
"City Of Witches" is a web novel that throws you headfirst into a world unlike any other. It's got a unique premise, blending modern-day elements with a hidden society of powerful witches. I found myself intrigued by the initial setup, but as I dug deeper, some cracks started to show, leading to a mixed, but ultimately interesting, experience.
First Impressions
The hook is undeniably strong: a genius mathematician, kidnapped after a plane crash and enslaved in a city ruled by witches. He discovers he can learn magic, something supposedly impossible for men, and that's where the story really grabbed me. I was immediately invested in his struggle for survival and his desire to escape. The early chapters paint a vivid picture of his harsh reality and his burning hatred for his captors.
What Works Well
The world-building is definitely a strong point. The author creates a believable and detailed society of witches, complete with their own rules, hierarchies, and obsessions. Several readers have praised the immersive writing style and the way the story slowly unveils the secrets of this hidden city. I also appreciate the blend of action, fantasy, and adult themes. The fight scenes, while perhaps not the most polished, are engaging enough, and the R18 content is definitely present, if that's your thing. Some readers found the "plot" enjoyable, so there is something for everyone.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some inconsistencies that detracted from my enjoyment. The main character's behavior sometimes felt jarringly out of character. He is supposed to be this cautious and jaded man, forged in the fires of slavery, but then acts impulsively and irrationally. This inconsistency makes it hard to fully connect with him. Also, I noticed that the pacing could be uneven, with some sections feeling overly verbose while others rushed. Some readers found the initial chapters rough, but felt the story picked up after chapter 100.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "City Of Witches" has a certain allure. The unique premise, the detailed world-building, and the blend of genres make it an intriguing read. However, be prepared for some inconsistencies in character and pacing. If you're looking for a web novel with a strong focus on adult themes and don't mind some narrative hiccups along the way, "City Of Witches" might be worth checking out. I'd give it a cautious recommendation, with the caveat that your mileage may vary depending on your tolerance for the issues I mentioned.
