Description

Bricolage Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Bricolage
"Bricolage" is definitely a novel that sticks with you, even after you've put it down. It's a dark, complex story that pulls you into its world with a compelling, if sometimes frustrating, narrative. I found myself deeply invested in the characters, despite their flaws, and eager to see where their journey would lead.
First Impressions
Initially, I was captivated by the dynamic between the MC and ML. The MC's personality is immediately endearing, and I was intrigued by the ML's "does whatever he pleases" attitude. However, this quickly evolves into a more complicated relationship. The ML's actions are often questionable, blurring the lines between devotion and possessiveness. It's the kind of relationship that makes you want to simultaneously root for them and shake them both.
What Works Well
The world-building is intriguing, and the plot keeps you guessing. The slow reveal of the ML's motivations and backstory is particularly well-done. Just when you think you've pegged him as a typical "scumbag ML," the story throws a curveball, offering a glimpse into the complexities of his character. This makes the story far more interesting than a simple "bad boy gets redeemed" trope. I also appreciated that the translation is well done, which always makes the reading experience much smoother.
Areas of Concern
The MC can be frustratingly passive at times. His willingness to accept abuse and his failure to communicate effectively can be hard to watch. However, as the story progresses, it becomes clear that his actions are a reflection of his circumstances, and his eventual growth is all the more rewarding because of it.

"Bricolage" isn't a light read, but it's a worthwhile one. If you're looking for a dark, melodramatic story with complex characters and a unique plot, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions and a protagonist who will test your patience. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect, but it's definitely memorable.
