Description
“The eyes should be like Reizen’s, the nose like yours… and the lips like mine – that’s the grandchild you shall bear.” Three years ago, Melissa was a young lady of a fallen duke’s family. She chose to be branded a mu*derer rather than be sold into marriage after marriage, but the Emperor, who was known for his obsession with beauty, wanted her to breed with his bloodline. “One is a mu*derer, and the other tried to kill their partner. So wouldn’t it be safer to bind them together with ‘marriage vows’?” Through this marriage, the woman who most wanted to die gained life. “Your Highness, if you agree to this marriage, your future political life will become difficult.” The illegitimate prince who pursued power had his wings clipped. Melissa felt guilty towards the man who was suddenly forced to marry her. ‘He must despise me.’ Once, she even begged him to kill her. But the man’s answer was cruel yet kind. “I’ll give you a new punishment.” “……” “Live. That’s what you must do from now on.”

My Thoughts on Breeding Marriage
"Breeding Marriage" promised a compelling blend of adult fantasy and enemies-to-lovers romance, and for a while, it delivered. I dove in expecting a story of forced marriage and eventual affection, and the initial chapters certainly hooked me. However, as I progressed, I found myself increasingly conflicted.
First Impressions
The beginning was undeniably strong. The setup, with a fallen noblewoman entering a marriage of convenience, felt familiar yet fresh. The dynamic between the leads, particularly the initial tension and chemistry, was captivating. I was eager to see how their relationship would unfold and how they would navigate the complexities of their situation.
What Works Well
The author excels at creating a palpable sense of tension. The female lead, burdened by her past and the expectations placed upon her, is a sympathetic character. Her struggle to overcome her trauma and find her voice resonated with me, and I found myself rooting for her to find happiness. The male lead, despite his flaws (which become more prominent later), initially possesses a certain charisma that makes him intriguing. The world-building, while not overly detailed, provides a sufficient backdrop for the unfolding drama.
Areas of Concern
⚠️ Spoiler Warning ⚠️
Unfortunately, the narrative takes a turn that significantly impacted my enjoyment. The male lead's character development becomes problematic, with instances of him acting in ways that contradict his earlier portrayal. I was particularly troubled by a specific scene where he disregards the female lead's consent, especially considering his own family history. This action felt jarring and out of character, ultimately undermining the progress made in their relationship. The story seemed to lean into harmful tropes, which overshadowed the positive aspects. The misunderstandings between the leads also become increasingly frustrating, with the male lead often exacerbating the female lead's insecurities instead of offering support.
Final Verdict
"Breeding Marriage" had the potential to be a truly memorable read. The initial chapters were promising, and the chemistry between the leads was undeniable. However, the problematic character development and the introduction of questionable plot elements ultimately detracted from my overall experience. While the female lead remains a compelling character, the male lead's actions make it difficult to fully invest in their relationship. I can't give this one a wholehearted recommendation.
