Description
Yoochan, who impulsively visits a tattoo shop, meets Jungeol, a skilled but reserved tattoo artist, by chance. Yoochan has money, time, and passion, but for some reason, it’s very difficult for him to get a tattoo from the demanding Jungeol. “I’ll go now. I’ll send you DMs sometimes, so don’t ignore them and reply well. And please like my posts.” “I’ll think about it.” Even though the tattoo shop has a policy against tattooing minors, Yoochan tries to persuade Jungeol with his usual charm. “Don’t think about it, just do it. And you have to give me a tattoo later. I’ll visit again during vacation if I have time.” “Come back in two years, it’s annoying.” “I’ll send you DMs, Jungeol!” Jungeol firmly refuses, saying he’ll do it in two years. I went to the shop, but you weren’t there. They said you went to the US? Have a great time. I’ll visit again later haha But as Yoochan persistently pursues, Jungeol’s closed heart starts to open little by little… “Come here for a second.” Jungeol stood still without moving. With a mix of slight dissatisfaction and longing in his eyes, Yoochan looked puzzled and slowly walked towards Jungeol, staggering. Seeing Jungeol standing crookedly by the bed, Yoochan let out a long sigh, feeling his stomach churn from the alcohol, and then happily grabbed Jungeol’s cheek and said, “Listen, I have something to tell you.” Jungeol silently stared at Yoochan with narrowed eyes. Yoochan wrapped his heavy arm around Jungeol’s waist and said, “Why do you say I’m reckless?” Yoochan added, looking slightly hurt, “Even if I seems reckless, can’t you trust me and meet me?” Not noticing Jungeol’s clenched teeth, Yoochan closed his eyes and playfully muttered, “…I really like you…”

My Thoughts on Black & Grey
"Black & Grey" really pulled me in with its refreshing take on a modern romance. It's a story that focuses on the growing relationship between Yoochan and Jungeol, and I found myself thoroughly invested in their journey.
First Impressions
The premise itself is quite engaging: Yoochan, initially wanting a tattoo related to a past relationship, reconnects with the tattoo artist, Jungeol, years later. I was immediately curious to see how their dynamic would unfold. Yoochan's initial naivete, combined with Jungeol's more grounded personality, created an interesting contrast that hooked me from the start.
What Works Well
What I enjoyed most was the dynamic between the two main characters. Yoochan is, for lack of a better word, an absolute sweetheart. His earnestness and the way he falls for Jungeol felt incredibly genuine. It's really endearing watching him navigate his feelings, even if he occasionally gets some questionable advice along the way. Jungeol, with his patience and calm demeanor, acts as a perfect counterpoint to Yoochan's impulsiveness. The novel really shines in portraying their relationship development in a way that feels natural and unforced. It's also worth mentioning that the story avoids unnecessary drama, which I personally appreciated. It's a heartwarming tale of two individuals finding their way to each other, and I was totally here for it.
Areas of Concern
My only real wish is that there was more content showing them further along in their relationship. The story ends with Yoochan and Jungeol facing some distance due to external circumstances, and I would have loved to see how they navigated those challenges and ultimately settled into a more established life together. A glimpse into their future, perhaps an epilogue or some extra chapters, would have been the cherry on top.
Final Verdict
Despite my desire for more content, "Black & Grey" is a delightful read. It's a sweet, low-angst romance with likeable characters and a heartwarming story. If you're looking for a modern yaoi novel with a genuine connection between the leads, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
