My Thoughts on A Wicked Husband
"A Wicked Husband" – the title didn't exactly scream "read me," but I'm glad I took the plunge. This novel is a complex blend of dark fantasy, romance, and mature themes that kept me hooked, even when it veered into uncomfortable territory. It's definitely not a light and fluffy read, so buckle up.
First Impressions
My initial reaction was definitely mixed. The setup is intriguing: a beautiful female lead with a troubled past and a cold, powerful male lead with secrets of his own. The age gap (ML is 7 years older than FL) raised an eyebrow, but I was willing to see where the story went. The European-esque setting added a nice layer of atmosphere.
What Works Well
The character development, especially for the female lead, is a strong point. She starts off with crippling self-esteem issues, stemming from a neglectful and abusive family. It's a slow burn, but watching her gain confidence and find her voice, largely thanks to the male lead's support, is incredibly satisfying.
Speaking of the male lead, he's a walking red flag, and the story doesn't shy away from it. He's obsessive, manipulative, and definitely not afraid to get his hands dirty. Yet, there's a strange charm to his devotion to the female lead. He respects her boundaries (eventually), reassures her insecurities, and clearly adores her. It's a twisted kind of love, but compelling nonetheless.
The plot is intricate, with time travel elements and a heavy dose of angst. The author does a good job of balancing the dark themes with moments of tenderness and lightheartedness, preventing the story from becoming overwhelmingly bleak.
Areas of Concern
The female lead's initial naivety can be frustrating. It takes a while for her to develop a backbone, and some readers may find her too passive in the beginning. Also, the translation quality seems to be inconsistent.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws and potentially triggering content, "A Wicked Husband" is a captivating read. The complex characters, intriguing plot, and dark romance make it a standout in the genre. It's not for everyone, but if you're looking for a novel that will challenge and engage you, this might be right up your alley. I give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
