Description
Ellouise, a woman quietly raising her niece on her own, encounters an unexpected stranger while on vacation. He’s infamous for falling in love faster than anyone else— and now this unpredictable man proposes a contract marriage. His goal? To seduce a duchess who only entertains married men. And Ellouise, apparently, is the perfect decoy. “I’ve always believed a proper proposal must come with a ring.” Marcus blocked her path and pulled out a small box from beneath the table—a luxurious ebony case wrapped in black velvet. Inside was: “A 122-carat royal diamond.” The words that rose to her throat were, “Are you trying to buy me? Is this supposed to be some kind of insult?” But… “…it was far too much money to scold him for.” No—it was far too much diamond. Had one of her students come to her saying, “Miss, some man offered me money to marry him,” she would have advised them to run the other way without hesitation. But this wasn’t a classroom. This was real life. And real life? That’s a whole different game.

100 Days of Contract Marriage Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on 100 Days of Contract Marriage
"100 Days of Contract Marriage" had a lot of promise with its intriguing premise: a fake marriage, a charismatic male lead, and a strong female protagonist navigating the treacherous waters of aristocracy. While there were elements I enjoyed, some character decisions ultimately left me feeling frustrated.
First Impressions
The initial setup is undeniably captivating. Elouise, our female lead, enters into a contract marriage with Marcus, a handsome and charming nobleman. The arrangement is mutually beneficial: she gains social standing and financial stability, while he hopes to attract the attention of a certain Duchess. The rules are clear: honesty, no falling in love, and a set duration. It's a classic setup ripe for romantic tension and comedic mishaps.
What Works Well
I appreciated the initial banter between Elouise and Marcus. Their interactions were witty and engaging, and I found myself invested in seeing how their relationship would evolve. Marcus, despite his past reputation as a bit of a "player," is surprisingly honest about his flaws. He's upfront about his past relationships, which I found refreshing. His intentions, while sometimes misguided, never seemed malicious. The world-building, with its aristocratic setting and political intrigue, also added depth to the story.
Areas of Concern
⚠️ Spoiler Warning ⚠️
However, Elouise's actions became increasingly problematic for me. Her initial decision to deceive Marcus about her niece's identity felt like a misstep. While her motivations were understandable – she feared he wouldn't agree to the marriage otherwise – it created a foundation of distrust that plagued their relationship. As her feelings for Marcus grew, her insecurity and overthinking became a major obstacle. Even after Marcus confessed his feelings, she constantly questioned his sincerity and worried about his potential infidelity.
This constant self-doubt and unwillingness to fully commit, even after he demonstrated his genuine affection and commitment, made it difficult for me to root for her. Her decision to leave him, knowing how deeply he cared for her, felt like an unnecessary source of angst. The years-long separation and her continued suspicion upon their reunion stretched my patience.
Final Verdict
"100 Days of Contract Marriage" has the potential to be a captivating romance. The premise is intriguing, and Marcus's character has redeeming qualities. However, Elouise's constant indecisiveness and lack of trust ultimately detracted from my enjoyment of the story. While I appreciate the exploration of insecurities and the complexities of relationships, her actions often felt unnecessarily frustrating and hindered the overall narrative.
