Description
On the night of his eighth birthday, “Ivan,” the eldest son of Countess “Escobal,” an aristocrat of the great Astoria Empire, had a strange dream. It’s a dream of the empire’s crown prince and his cronies breaking their engagements with their fiancées. The farce, however, comes to an end with the arrival of the emperor. Although Ivan dreams every day that he is only a bystander to the scene in which the crown princes are thrown into a labyrinth from which no one has yet returned, his curiosity leads him to become a participant in the dream himself. From inside the labyrinth, Ivan sees the ugly fight between the nobles and the terrible demons who live there. When Ivan flees to avoid being attacked by a demon, he is defended by a woman. However, the woman who is protecting Ivan is devoured by a demon. In her final moments, she gives Ivan a friendly smile. Ivan wakes up from a nightmare, and from then on, after thousands of nightmares, tries to traverse the labyrinth to save “Nadia”, the daughter of Viscount Jest. Time passes. Ivan enrolls in the Imperial Academy and meets the real Nadia. Ivan makes a promise. “I will save Nadia in reality.” This is the story of a man who fights to save the woman he loves through thousands of nightmares and real-life situations, until he finally finds happiness.

Saving a Simple and Kind Viscountess Whose Engagement Was Broken and Sentenced to the Labyrinth Prison Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Saving a Simple and Kind Viscountess Whose Engagement Was Broken and Sentenced to the Labyrinth Prison
"Saving a Simple and Kind Viscountess Whose Engagement Was Broken and Sentenced to the Labyrinth Prison" is quite a mouthful, isn't it? After diving in, I found a story that, while charming in some respects, left me wanting more. It's a quick read, perfect for those looking for a light fantasy romance, but don't expect a deeply intricate plot.
First Impressions
The premise itself is intriguing: a kind viscountess, a broken engagement, and a labyrinth prison? Sign me up! I was ready for a tale of daring rescues and blossoming love. However, I quickly realized the story prioritizes speed over depth. The initial chapters rush through significant events, leaving little room for world-building or character development.
What Works Well
Despite its flaws, the novel does have its strengths. The core of the story revolves around a devoted love interest, and many readers, including myself, found the MC's dedication to the viscountess quite endearing. His desire to protect her, stemming from a childhood encounter, is a central theme that provides a sweet and wholesome feel to the narrative. I appreciated that the story focuses on their relationship and how they navigate the challenges they face together. The pacing, while a drawback in some areas, does keep the story moving forward, preventing it from becoming bogged down in unnecessary details.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel suffers from a lack of depth and complexity. The characters felt somewhat flat, and their motivations weren't always clear. The antagonists, in particular, seemed rather one-dimensional, serving more as obstacles for the MC to overcome than fully realized characters. While the fast pace keeps things moving, it also sacrifices opportunities for meaningful character development and world-building. The resolutions to conflicts often felt rushed, diminishing any sense of tension or drama. I also have to agree that the writing at times feels simplistic, lacking the emotional nuance that could have elevated the story.
Final Verdict
"Saving a Simple and Kind Viscountess Whose Engagement Was Broken and Sentenced to the Labyrinth Prison" is a decent, albeit unremarkable, fantasy romance. If you're looking for a quick and easy read with a devoted couple and don't mind a lack of depth, this might be worth your time. However, if you're seeking a complex and well-developed story with compelling characters and intricate world-building, you might be left wanting more. Ultimately, it's a lighthearted escape that's easy to consume but not particularly memorable.
