This novel is quite the rollercoaster, and my feelings about it are definitely mixed. It's a story with a lot of potential that, in my opinion, doesn't always live up to it, but still manages to be an enjoyable read for those who are fans of the omegaverse genre.
First Impressions
Okay, let's be real, the beginning is rough. The male lead starts off as a Grade-A jerk, and it's hard to ignore. He's cold, dismissive, and honestly, pretty frustrating to watch interact with the mute main character. The communication barrier, while a key plot point, is initially handled in a way that makes you want to scream at the ML to just listen for once.
What Works Well
Despite the rocky start, the story does have its charms. Many readers praised the eventual shift in the ML's behavior. He does, eventually, become doting and protective, which some found incredibly sweet. I also appreciate the MC's growth throughout the story. He starts off timid due to his circumstances, but he gradually learns to assert himself and interact with the ML on a more equal footing. The daily life fluff, once the relationship gets going, is definitely a highlight. Plus, the author does a decent job of tying up loose ends and explaining the plot points, which I always appreciate.
Areas of Concern
The biggest issue, for me and many others, is the ML's initial behavior. It's hard to completely forgive his early actions, even with the explanations of his screwed-up childhood. The constant misunderstandings can also be grating, especially since the MC's muteness prevents easy clarification. There were also comments about the translation, specifically the incorrect use of pronouns. Referring to male omegas as "she" throughout entire chapters can be distracting and takes away from the reading experience.
