My Thoughts on I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice on the School Radio, but Before I Knew It, the Beautiful Girls at School Were Hitting on Me
Okay, so I dove into "I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice…" with a healthy dose of curiosity. The title alone promises a comedic, harem-filled romp through high school, and honestly, sometimes that's exactly what I'm in the mood for. While there are definitely elements I enjoyed, I also found myself a little underwhelmed by the overall execution.
First Impressions
The premise is undeniably fun. A seemingly ordinary guy dispensing love advice on the school radio, only to become the object of affection for multiple beautiful girls? Sign me up! The initial chapters definitely hooked me with the potential for hilarious misunderstandings and charming romantic developments.
What Works Well
The translation quality is solid, which is always a huge plus. Nothing pulls you out of a story faster than awkward phrasing or grammatical errors. The characters, at least in their initial introductions, are distinct and have the potential to be engaging. The idea of the "yandere-lite" behavior from the female leads also intrigued me, hinting at some potentially darker comedic moments.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and I think this resonates with many readers, is the pacing and character development. While the story starts strong, it quickly feels like it's throwing too many potential love interests at the MC without properly establishing them or their motivations. Instead of building genuine connections and exploring the reasons behind their interest in him, it devolves into a bit of a catfight scenario between some of the girls, while the MC remains largely oblivious. This lack of depth made it hard for me to truly invest in any of the romantic pairings. I found myself wanting more substance and less superficial interaction. The potential is definitely there, but it feels like it needs more time to breathe and develop.
Final Verdict
"I Was Supposed to Be Giving Love Advice…" is a mixed bag. It has a fun premise, decent translation, and the potential for engaging characters. However, the rushed pacing and lack of in-depth character development ultimately hold it back. While I'm not sure if I'll continue reading, I wouldn't discourage others from giving it a shot, especially if you're a fan of the genre and willing to overlook some of its flaws. It might just be your cup of tea.
