Description
Welcome to a World with a Gender Ratio of 1:1000! In the year 199X, labyrinths known as “Dungeons” appeared across the world, bringing forth countless monsters from within. Inside these dungeons, modern weapons ceased to function. The world’s military forces were on the losing side. In time of peril, Sirius, a self-proclaimed great sage from another world, emerged to save the world from the brink of destruction. Thanks to the divine blessings of a temple he had established, people awakened to magic and skills, which were only usable within dungeons. Those who wielded these powers became known as “Explorers.” In 2005, through the final operation, an Explorer party succeeded in defeating the Demon King, saving humanity from its crisis. However, one hero remained deep within the dungeon. Yet, the dungeons still persisted across the world. In 2025, a beginner Explorer by the name Haruka Shimomura found herself in a life-or-death situation during her livestream. She was about to be killed by a high-level monster that should not have existed in the lower floors of the dungeon.. At that moment, the one who saved her was a boy who bore the same name as the legendary hero who had participated in defeating the Demon King’s twenty years ago. He was also the boy who had failed to return 20 years ago.

My Thoughts on The V*rgin Hero Who Fought in the Dungeon for 20 Years Returned to the Surface Only to Find the Population of the World Has Dropped Drastically, with a Male-to-Female Ratio of 1:1000
This title certainly grabs your attention, doesn't it? I dove into "The V*rgin Hero..." with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. The premise – a dude emerges from a dungeon after two decades to a world with a hilariously skewed gender ratio – screams potential for both comedic gold and potential pitfalls. After reading a fair chunk of it, here are my thoughts.
First Impressions
Okay, the initial chapters are a lot. The author throws a mountain of exposition at you right off the bat. It felt like I was wading through a textbook before the actual adventure even began. It's a bit jarring and definitely slows down the momentum. I was hoping for a smoother introduction to the world and characters, but instead, I got a massive info dump.
What Works Well
Despite the rocky start, the humor is definitely present. The premise itself is inherently funny, and the author manages to mine some of that potential. The protagonist's naivete, combined with the absurdity of the situation he finds himself in, leads to some genuinely amusing moments. The whole livestreaming aspect adds a modern twist that I appreciated. I also think the "overpowered protagonist" tag is accurate. He's strong, and that power dynamic, especially in a matriarchal society, is interesting.
Areas of Concern
The pacing, unfortunately, is a significant issue. The constant POV shifts, sometimes within the same chapter, are disorienting. Just as I started to connect with a character, the narrative would jump to someone else entirely, disrupting the flow. The exposition dumps, as mentioned earlier, are a major drag and really hinder the story's ability to build momentum naturally. I found myself wanting to skim through large chunks just to get back to the main character's story.
Final Verdict
"The V*rgin Hero..." has potential, but it's hampered by its execution. The humor and overpowered protagonist are definite draws, but the pacing problems and overwhelming exposition make it a bit of a slog to get through. I'm on the fence about continuing. If you're willing to power through the initial hurdles, you might find something to enjoy. However, be prepared for a bumpy ride. It's a 3/5 for me – a fun concept that needs some serious refinement.
